Living in a Port Saint Lucie Active Adult Community

For those over the age of 55, the benefits of living in a Port Saint Lucie active adult community are seemingly endless. The first advantage that comes to mind for so many people considering an active adult community is the plethora of available amenities. Each neighborhood has a wide-range of common lifestyle amenities, and you can choose which ones best suit your interests and lifestyle. Furthermore, you can sleep peacefully knowing that your community has an added layer of security, and when you decide to travel, you won’t have to give a second thought to caring for your property while you’re gone.

Top Port Saint Lucie Active Adult Communities

Once you start looking at all of the active adult communities in Port Saint Lucie, you’ll quickly see that you have so many incredible choices. It’s impossible to list them all, but here are a few examples that are definitely worth noting:

PGA Village Verano: While the homes in PGA Village Verano are undeniably gorgeous, the real appeal of living in this country club-style community is that residents receive a privileged PGA membership with golf discounts. Avid golfers over the age of 55 may be hard pressed to find a better place to settle down than PGA Village Verano.

Veranda Gardens: A gated community, Veranda Gardens is home to a secure neighborhood of single-family homes that boasts world-class amenities and encourages residents to live a social and active lifestyle. It features a clubhouse that is complete with a gym that contains state of the art fitness equipment, and outdoors residents can enjoy a pool, barbeque grill and a fire pit.

Cascades at Saint Lucie West: Many of the homes located in Cascades feature waterfront views or stunning views of preserved natural areas. This community is gated and residents can enjoy the protection of a guardhouse that is manned 24 hours a day. With a 26,000 square foot clubhouse, it’s safe to say that you’ll never be bored for a moment living here.

Pros & Cons to Living in a Port Saint Lucie Active Adult Community

Much like buying any other home, there are definitley some pros and cons to living in an active adult community you'll want to consider before making a final decision. The good news, however, is that if you've already lived in a condo or planned neighborhood setting with an HOA, you might already be familiar with some of the nuances involved with living inside an active adult community setting.

The Advantages

An Added Layer of Security. One of the biggest benefits to living in an active adult community is the security that comes along with it. Most, if not all, active adult communities have their own on-site security, and many are also gated.

Amenities Galore. It’s undeniable that one of the biggest reasons that people love living in active adult communities is the access to all of the wonderful amenities. While the amenities will vary from neighborhood to neighborhood, many offer pools, gyms, clubhouses, game rooms, golf courses, and access to boating.

Live at a Slower Pace. When you’re surrounded with other like-minded people, it’s easier to live at a slower pace. You’ll make friends with people who share your schedule and lifestyle, and when so many amenities are available to you, there’s less of a need to leave your community.

The Disadvantages

Expensive HOA Dues. As nice as it is to have an HOA that takes care of maintenance and landscaping, it’s also important to consider the fact that HOA fees can add up. Some communities have relatively low HOA fees, but others may charge quite a bit.

Smaller Homes. While there are certainly active adult communities that feature larger homes, the majority of these neighborhoods feature smaller homes than traditional ones. This is largely because a smaller home is easier to clean and to maintain.

HOA Rules & Regulations. As much as the HOA can be helpful, it can also be frustrating to deal with HOA regulations on what your home should look like and how you can style it to make it your own.
